Begin at the beginning

This will be a Free Will Sims 3 game set in the town of Riverview, with several households that I'll visit in rotation.

This is a playing style I learned from Dee, Pib and Muleskinner (see the list of blogs I'm following for their stories. I highly recommend them).

I used notes from Dee's "Selah's Sims Stories" and PiB's "Adventures with Sims 3" blogs as a guide on how to set it up.

I've removed all the premade families from Riverview and bulldozed all but a dozen of the houses. Into these houses I've moved six young single men and six young single women. I'll be rotating between active households to spy on them and see what they're doing. I'll lend a hand once in a while if they seem stuck or if there's something they need that I know they won't do on their own, but mostly I'm planning on watching to see what they do on their own, who they meet, who they love and hate, and how they choose to work and play. I have aging on, and free will on the highest setting.

I'll be using no mods except the Sim Selector by Twallan, which simply lets me switch active households without going through Edit Town. I play on a minimal computer, and it takes me about 10 minutes to get in or out of Edit Town. I won't be using any cheats except in build mode, or to reset a sim.

I've simnapped the following sims and moved them in:

Dudes
Wyatt Walker by Dee
Sam by PiB
Max Staple by me
Tyler Townsend by me
Ronnie Rausage by Johnnywr
William by rflong7

Dudettes
Rachel Thorpe by me
Becky Sharma by Worsiedog
AJ Anderson by Dee
Talia Dean by Chrysame
Menuchah Muleskinner Lothario by Muleskinner
Lexie Alexander by me

I also added Dee's improved Plumpuddle Park and my The Corner Pub and Turtle Daycare, and a couple of custom houses.

I gave them all free houses because this isn't a legacy or a challenge and I don't want to have to mess with poverty. I have not yet done anything else to set them up; as far as I know all the houses were furnished. I gave them all some starting money because some of them are in very expensive houses and I don't know when they'll be getting jobs. When they start having babies I'll do some redecorating and buy baby furniture and so on. If anybody needs anything they don't have, like a TV for a funloving sim or a bookshelf for a bookworm, I'll buy it for them. Some of them will look a bit different because I didn't have their custom clothing or hair, and had to make substitutions. About half of the men showed up in CAS in the same shirt and had to be redressed.

I'll be rotating between houses to check on their progress.

Let the spying begin!

  1. Don't mind me - I'm just testing the template.

  2. :-) Guess what blog is the most recent add to the group blog list?

If Sim Selector also means that they don't lose their inventory, I think I may need it. I'm tired of needing to either sell everything or store it around the house before I switch.

Good luck, if you've really emptied the town, you should see a lot of couples forming and making babies really really quickly.

  3. I have a feeling you still lose inventory; I'll be able to tell after I've played a while. Maybe there was no way around that. This is still worth it to me just to bypass edit town.

  4. There is at least one hack that is supposed to keep the inventory. Mind you, that's all I remember about it from the forums which isn't very useful information. LOL

  5. This is going to be fun to watch. Oh yes, as PiB stated, lots of babies should be popping up real fast.
Good thing you have that sim selector. You're probably going to need it since it takes that long to work with edit town. I hope you have fun with this.
Always feel free to change anything on my sims. Once you download them, they're yours to do with as you please.

  6. There are a few mods out there that let you switch households without the loss of inventory. Thanks for picking Talia. She was a cute little pyro but, unfortunately, I learned after uploading her that they don't retain their hidden traits unless they're uploaded as a household. *sigh*

Good luck and I'm eager to see what happens!

  7. I may be getting that mod if I run across it. It would be great to keep inventory. This is enough for now though. For some reason, I trust the person who made it, as many other people seem to, so I feel okay using his mods.

Shame about no pyro. Oh well. I have a neurotic, a snob and a klepto, so hopefully they can keep the town interesting.

  8. Count me in as a follower. This should be very interesting and thanks for choosing Menuchah for your game/story/blog.

Wow!!! What have you done with her? I think she is 'drop dead gorgeous'. (I'm drooling on my keyboard.)

BTW, some time ago, I downloaded and now use 'The Corner Pub'. Great piece of work.

  9. lol Grandpa. I swear, all I changed is her hair and blouse, but only because I didn't have those items. I didn't want to change anything, I think she was already beautiful.

I tried to install that hair and couldn't. Or maybe I got the wrong one. :(

I really love the sims I have in this game. Most of them are the best looking sims I've been able to find, but they're more than pretty. Their faces have character. Not just cookie cutter sims.

Thanks for downloading The Corner Pub. I'm so pleased you like it. Makes me feel proud. ;) I spent an absurdly long time playtesting it to make sure all the "move objects" stuff worked, and upgrading all the plumbing to unbreakable.

  10. edit: Really, poor old Ronnie is the only one who isn't really handsome. But I do think he's kind of cuddly. And I like his weird mixture of traits. I expect him to be pretty interesting.

  11. Ronnie Rausage: Now there's a name. :o) If I had a name like 'Rausage' I'd might act a bit neurotic in public too. His books are probably the best friends the poor guy's got.

I'll be keeping an eye out for Ronnie (in your stories). I want to see what happens with Rister Rausage. Ha-ha! Get it! Rister instead of Mister.

Of course... nah...I better not go there.

  12. I've actually been thinking about making a Sim much like Ronnie actually. Based on one of my uncles and the Australian jazz musician James Morrison. There is something about that kind of guy.

Muleskinner, are you channeling Astro from the Jetsons? Rister Rausage indeed!

  13. PiB - I've belatedly realized that I never followed up on your query and tested whether the Sim Selector saves inventory. After several rotations now, I see that Menuchah still has the picnic basket she had in my Dec. 1 update, and the family inventories still have the beds I put there when I did the mass house cleanup several updates ago. Still, I recommend testing before committing to any mod. But you would anyway.

If you want to check it out for yourself, it's at Crazy Town > Nraas Industries

  14. Either the latest patch or WA made inventories stay when switching households. That's one of the few reasons I was vaguely thinking about a mod. Now I feel better since I don't need to sell or store everything that everyone owns before switching active households.

  15. Good. Because I screwed up the link, anyway. grin.

  16. It was the patch. They still lose stuff you put in the fridge but they keep their inventory, even when moving them to another town.
